Hidden Figures - A great movie filled with memories

Hidden Figures is a must see! Enjoyable from start to finish and a movie the entire family can watch. It inspires discussion and I loved watching it with my girls and granddaughter recently! The movie also conjured up some childhood memories I shared with them. My father was always a big NASA fan. We lived in Seattle and the launches were in Florida - a big time difference when NASA launched at sunrise and a clear sky. From the first launch Dad would call upstairs to the three of us, "Two minutes to launch! Get Down Here NOW!!" By the time we tripped down the stairs they were counting, "TEN...NINE...EIGHT..." All of us would be standing there in our jammies watching history being made. It never failed as long as the siblings lived at home the routine was the same, "TWO MINUTES AND COUNTING..."  Until the launches became commonplace even to my dad and it was that first missed launch that was a disaster. He knew it was crazy be said he felt somehow respon...

My Sock Drawer is Growing with Lichen and Moss!

Immediately after finishing my last pair of Lichen and Moss Socks I cast on another pair. This is one GREAT pattern! Pattern: Lichen and Moss by Johanna Ryan Yarn: Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering Colorway: Conifer Needle Size: US Size 1 I made the same modifications as in my last socks (See last post) The first pair were a bit tight for my liking and so this time I added four stitches, two at each side of the sock making the first row of the pattern: Knit 4, Purl 2, 5 stitch pattern, Purl 2, Knit 6, Purl 2, 5 stitch pattern, Purl 2, Knit 4. This is not my last pair of Lichen socks!!!

"Impressive"

One of the things I like about knitting socks is the portability of the projects. Knitters know how nice it is to be able pull out a project while in a waiting room.  Recently, I was in a room filled with women waiting at the car service center. One lady reading the newspaper asked if I'd like a section but my response was, "No thank you, no news is good news." Her response, "These days you are 100%  correct." The other ladies were staring into space, fiddling with their phones, and flipping through magazines. Me? I just pulled out the ever ready knitting in my purse and began knitting. I'd been knitting for a bit when one of the ladies said, "Impressive. Have you been knitting long?" I went into my standard reply - since I was in the fifth grade, yada, yada, yada. Then she wanted to know who had taught me to knit. I surprised myself when I began telling her about my last conversation with Bea a few years ago. I'd called Bea to let her know...

I'm Like'n these Lichen and Moss Socks!

These socks may be my all time favorite sock knit! Pattern: Lichen and Moss Socks by Joanna Ryan Yarn: Knit Pocks Hawthorne FIngering Colorway: Goose Hollow Needle Size: US Size 1 Being a toe up knitter it was necessary for me to tweak this pattern slightly. After knitting the toe I then began the pattern as follows: Knit 3, Purl 2, 5 stitch pattern, Purl 2, Knit 6, Purl 2, 5 stitch pattern, Purl 2, Knit 3. Allowing me to start the pattern at the side rather than at the back of the heel. The other alteration was to Knit the entire next row - creating a rest row. Tried Very Pink Knits Simple Stretchy Bind-off and will certainly use it again. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this pattern! And I'm off to start another pair of the same socks!
