What were you doing 50 years ago today?

Today is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.  Without a doubt we watched the launching of Apollo 11 on the 15th of July.  Dad was always a very faithful viewer of each launching. Not wanting his kids missing such a historic sight, he woke us up about 3 minutes before the launch. Not an easy feat for my dad to wake three teenagers at 6:30 in the morning! But this wasn't our first wake up call for a launching or the earliest, as I remember the record was 2:30am Pacific time. Five days later came the famous words, “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” by Neil Armstrong just as I was heading out the door on a date.  So while Neil was on the moon, and I was over the moon in love with my future husband!
I bought this cute cat birdhouse just for looks but now there is a pair of birdies, house wrens I think, living in the belly just waiting for their eggs to hatch! They have a beautiful song when they are happy and peep when they think there is danger around - like two real live kitties at the base of trunk!

A Cinderella moment

Today I was sitting in my lawn chair quietly knitting and watching two very happy kitties sitting in the sun. I hadn't realized how refined my knitting technique had become until I felt a very slight weight on my right shoulder. Unconcerned I continued knitting but slightly turned my head to see what was there. Perhaps a leaf or the wind playing with the hood of my jacket. I imagine the little bird was as startled as I when we met eye to eye, nose to beak before he flew away!

A baby blanket with no home

While visiting a favorite site, Ravelry, I spied this baby blanket and wondered how the Mandala yarn would crochet up in the pattern. There isn't an intended baby recipient so it will be added to the charity pile of of baby items to be given away. Pattern: Compass by Buttonnose Crochet Yarn: Lion Brand Mandala Colorway: 217 Genie, 210 Pegasus Hook Size: 4.25mm (G)

First Fawn of the Season

We were just getting geared up for our annual family contest, keeping an eagle eye on the area around our house, and carrying our phones everywhere. Surprisingly, the competition quickly came to a close when Hubby sent the winning photo this morning: Twin fawns but one was hidden... The winner of the 2019 First Fawn of the Season is Hubby!!

Berkley socks

After finishing the afghan I had a few bits and pieces of yarn left which I could easily kit into Berkley socks. They are always such a fun knit! Pattern: Vanilla Socks with Fishlip Kiss Heels Yarn: 80-20 sock yarn Colorway: any Needle Size: US Size 1
