Not much has been happening at Windyridge since our trip to the Big Island. We are just waiting for spring to appear. I've been enjoying knitting on some larger items none of which aren't quite done.  I said I'd never knit a "Down The Rabbithole" blanket - EVER AGAIN - but the sock scraps were really multiplying and something just had to be done with them!  I must admit this time I looked for a pattern I thought would be quicker and definitely with less ends to weave in. This is a much quicker project than my Down The Rabbithole Blanket but still makes me feel just a bit crazy. Even though the blanket is on the downhill side I have over 300 stitches on the needle ! Everyone is beginning to chatter about their Stash Dash projects and so perhaps I’ll let this marinate just a bit and finish up in June. I'm trying to consolidate my genealogy information into one area of the house and specifically into a four drawer file cabinet. Slowly I'm going through papers. Not an easy task because I'd rather be on Ancestry winding my way through family trees looking for connecting branches of the family. I haven't looked at the Hedges/Jamison Family Bible for many years. It's so fragile, that many years ago I copied the family information and carefully put it back in its place. I came across the copies this week and while looking at them I saw a name whose place in the family I'd never been able to discover: Who was this Mary Shoemaker? I asked myself. This search necessitated me to really use my genealogy detective skills. If she was in this Bible she must have been a Hedges or Jamison so I went to Ancestry and began my sleuthing about the site. While on our recent vacation, The Chick mentioned there is another set of twins coming soon. This time a girl and a boy. When we arrived home I dug through the stash and knit another twin set for the little ones. I'll get them in the mail later this week, after the newest eight inches of snow has melted! I have photos of three family photos taken in Lyndon, Kansas by a photography studio by the name of Ford. The families maybe Hedges but could be photos of Catherine Hedges's daughters or nieces which would have had different surnames...  I haven't been able to identify them - YET - please Ancestry, don't let me down!

  For over forty-five years I've had a photo album which I've come to believe belonged to my Great Grandmother Catherine Hedges Jamison. Most photos were labeled and I knew them as family members but there were several my mother did not know how they were connected to the family. One of these unknown photos was a beautiful toddler and on the back was the name, "Claude Nolan Harper, 2 years." From the moment I saw this photo I called him "Clod Hopper."  Mom would correct me but I always thought of him by the nickname I'd given him. So imagine my surprise the other day while doing some research on Ancestry when I found Claude Harper among my Hedges family. I read and reread the name and started chuckling at the play on the name "Clod Hopper"...  and then I thought, "Wait a minute! This is my long lost Claude Harper!!!" The first time I made this sundress I was in high school and it was for a darling little girl I often watched after school and in the summer. It's a wonderful pattern because if timed right, the baby can wear it as a dress the first year and then the second year it still fits and becomes an adorable little sunsuit. Years later, I made this for the three daughters and two granddaughters. They all looked just as adorable. I whipped this up in an afternoon for our little grandniece who will be one year old soon. I was a little worried about putting in the buttonholes but considering I have my new sewing machine I decided I needed to at least try to make the buttonholes before calling in the troops. I knew Jo would help me out but they were a breeze, I love my sewing machine! I thought this cute little bunny would be a nice addition. It called for button eyes but because this is going to a one year old I decided to just sew on whiskers and a pompom bunny tail on the back...
