A Late Christmas Gift

The Tiger fell in love with my rolls this holiday season. They are my standard dinner roll recipe from the Betty Crocker Cookbook but the Tiger just couldn't get enough. Over Christmas I made two batches just to keep his tummy happy.

Golden Crescents
2 packages of yeast
3/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening (part soft butter)
4 cups flour
Soft butter or margarine

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups flour until smooth. Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Scrape dough from side of bowl. Cover, let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours.

Divide dough in half; roll each half into 12-inch circle. Spread with butter; cut into 16 wedges. Roll up each wedge, beginning at rounded edge. Place rolls, with point under, on greased baking sheet. Cover; let stand until double, about 1 hour.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Brush rolls with butter.

I was visiting with the NorDak Purl Gurl a couple of nights ago and she told me that she was sick of hearing about those rolls, its all The Tiger has talked about since they got home...

"I'm hungry for some of Grandma's rolls."
"I wish I'd asked for rolls for Christmas instead of my Legos."
"This dinner would be good if we had some of Grandma rolls."

Don't worry Tiger there's something coming in the mail - just for you!

  1. He was pretty excited when I showed him your post. I am going to have to try my hand at a batch because I just heard about your famous rolls again the other night!!
