Three weeks of sun, sand, and beach was wonderful. We had the added pleasure of family spending time with us too! The Chick and NorDak Family spend over a week lounging in the sand. Our daily schedule was tough: up and out the door by 8:00 each morning, settled on the beach by 8:20, back to the condo by 5:15, dinner at 6:00, and in bed by 8:00, then repeat!
When we arrived in Hawaii we immediately went to our favorite beach, Hapuna. The waves were incredible! We spent most of the day sitting in our beach chairs in the shelter, it was definitely not the time to renew our love for boogie boarding.
And a photo by hubby.....
At Hapuna the waves were so high, and the undertow so strong, we decided to head to Turtle Beach the second day. It was a great day!
I've seen these birds around the beached of Hawaii for years and this is the first time I've done a little research on them. They are called the Kolea. They fly from Alaska to Hawaii, 2,500 miles, non stop in two days to enjoy the mild winters. Around the end of April they return to Alaska.
Hubby spent several hours taking shots of the Cattle Egrets, a type of Heron. They had quite a rookery at Turtle Beach and weren't wanting any pictures taken of their babies!
Hubby spent several afternoons doing a little whale watching and had a great time.
The Chick and NorDak family arrived and wanted to hit the beach right away. They wanted the same thing Hubby and I love to do when we visit: Play in the sand and sun!
Hubby always had his technology close at hand,,,,
This is my favorite whale photo. A small boat sneaking up on a sleeping whale. Surprising how close they got!
I have never seen Maui so clearly from Hapuna! If you look closely there is just a bit of snow on the tip of the mountain. I love this picture because I recognize the lady in the chair. She has been coming to the Hapuna for years. When I first noticed her, six or eight chairs would be lined up each morning, now there are only two or three each day. She has been slowly losing her swimming/beach partners over the years..
On the last day at the beach we thought a couple more photos were in order...
While we were enjoying the sun our poor little house/cat sitter was dealing with record snow!

I was happy my hair went into the expected immediate curly/wavy mode!
Several years ago I pick up several bulbs from this plant and they are now growing on the deck in the summer and in the house in the winter. The plant has never bloomed and Jo wanted to know what the blooms looked like. It can grow to a height of 7 feet and is called a White Spider Lily.At Hapuna the waves were so high, and the undertow so strong, we decided to head to Turtle Beach the second day. We spent a morning at Turtle Beach getting the obligatory photos on the driftwood before the rain started and we had to cut our stay there short.
I think The Tiger had been dreaming of digging in the sand back home. It is the second thing he did when they hit the beach. The hole he dug got so deep at first kiddos would walk up and peak in, then older adults, and finally a man in his twenties walked over and said,"Hey Dude, you're halfway to China!"Hubby always had his technology close at hand,,,,
