A vicarious run of The Tahoe 200 Ultra Marathon...

Hubby and I recently came back from another adventure. This one involved crewing for our Son-in-law who was running the Tahoe 200 Ultra Marathon. This marathon is not for the faint of heart. Two hundred and five miles around Lake Tahoe, climbing and descending over 34,000 feet of mountainous terrain. We were there to give our racer encouragement and support to the finishline. Yes, call us crazy, but we were up for the challenge, waiting at the designated rest stops every 15-20 miles which were fully equipped with food, water and medical help. A "tough" job but someone had to do it! Ready for the challenge Mica was a level head and tremendous help as pacer Heading into the rest station and all the care we can hand out Something only a wife could do, getting socks on after 2 hours of medical attention to the feet Coming in for what this crew thought might be the last leg of the race for our racer but...  compression so...

Finished "booby" prize for bunco

Tonight I'll be hosting the monthly Bunco Night with the neighborhood ladies. The ladies are always so appreciative of my knitting. I think they'll love the cowl and mittens come December and January! Pattern: Christine Button Cowl Yarn: Big Twist Yarns Natural Blend Solids Colorway: Winter WHite Amount: 2 Skiens Needles: US Size 15 The pattern called for 17 but I couldn't find them in my messy fiber room. This precipitated an official muck out and I find I'll post soon.

Its official, The Eclipse socks are done...

The current socks I'm knitting have a definite pattern and I knew I needed a pair of vanilla socks to work on for our Eclipse Adventure. Also I knew I couldn’t possibly finish a size 13 pair of socks on one short trip our short trip.  Pattern: Vanilla Socks, Fish Lips Kiss Heel Yarn: Golden Socks Tannheim , Regia 4-Fach Haltbar Colorway: Brown Needle Size: US SIZE 1 I used the Regia for toes, heels and cuffs, and the Golden Socks Tannheim 4. This is the first time I’ve used Golden Socks Tannheim 4 yarn and it knit up beautifully, now the real test is to see how it wears.

Mittens for the Bunco Babes

I'm starting this year's Bunco season by hosting the monthly party next week. For those who don't know the game there is a booby prize for the gal with the most loses and I decided to knit a pair of mittens as well as a cowl. The mittens are done... Pattern: Quick Knit Chunky Mittens by Cozy Up Knits Yarn: Big Twist Yarns Natural Solids Colorway: Winter White Amount: Less than a skein Needle Size: US Size 11 It's another smoke filled day in Montana, appears to be another good day to stay inside with the air conditioner going, I really miss the blue skies!

"Mom, you're over reacting!"

Bobbing back and forth Polly thought she was playing Peek-A-Boo on the deck railing this morning but I'm pretty sure it was a potential homicide. Denali had murder on her mind, it's over a one story drop on the other side of the rail! (No big blue skies in Montana this morning, we have been smoked in for days. Fires are all over in the state.)

Spirit scarf and mittens

It's hard for me to think of Little SadieLouWho in high school but that's where she's headed this fall. I'm proud of her for making the Sophomore volleyball team. When coach told the girls they had to run an eight minute mile to join the team, SadieLou practiced until she could run a 7:38 mile. Dedication! I thought I'd add just a little spirit to her fall line up of sports and knit a Blue Jay scarf and warm mittens. (Would love better photos!) Pattern: Commuter Scarf by Ruth Ellen Yarn: Lion Brand Mandala Colorway: Spirit Amount: One Skien Needle Size: US Size 7 Pattern: Quick Knit Chunky Mitts by Cozy Up Designs Yarn: Big Twist Yarns Natural Blend Solids Colorway:Black Amount: Less than one skien Needle Size: US Size  11

Totality awesome adventure!

A knitter's gotta knit no matter what's happening Early last spring I caught wind of the up coming eclipse crossing the continent on August 21st. I immediately began trying to reserve first a hotel room ($1,000 a night/3 night minimum), then a state camping site (all full), and finally a private campground in Glenrock, Wyoming ($60 per night two night minimum).  Things later went crazy, hotels reportedly went for $3,000 per night. People rented out their front lawns with household bathroom privileges for $300 a night but then called the original renters to say they had a waiting list of people who would rent from them for $500 a night and the original renters needed to send more money or cancel - an eclipse ransom. We rented our campsite, bought our special glasses, invited The Chick, The NorDak Family, and the California Dreamin' families to come along.  Only The Chick was able to accept, the beginning of school getting in the way for the others. Months went by...
