Easter 2017

It's turning into a tradition - When the first daughter makes it to the old homestead we head to the grocery store for supplies. Kate drew the lucky straw this Easter. It was a quick trip to town and back home - we both are known for our distaste for shopping. As we were unpacking the groceries we decided to boil up the eggs immediately for dyeing later. This proved a very wise decision. After being in the car for their eight hour trip to Gram's the kiddos were more than ready for some creative egg dyeing. Sarah had been on Pinterest and found a new trendy way to dye eggs.  Shaving cream and food coloring was all we needed and we were hopping down the bunny trail almost immediately!  Place the eggs in the goop for 10 minutes and then rinse... We decided the neon food coloring called for would have been a great idea but the shelves were empty. We think this was the "IN" way to dye eggs this year!  The kiddos still enjoy a good Easter Egg Hunt...... Aft...

Spring snow

Yesterday I was cleaning out the last of the flowerbeds and planting seeds in 70 degree weather while Hubby took the plow off the four wheeler. Today...  it's 1:30 pm. and we have ten inches of snow. The weatherman predicts more snow until midnight tonight. Hubby has put the plow back on and is out making our driveway passable.   Pattern: Vanilla Socks with a Fish Lips Kiss Heel Yarn: Schachenmayr Regia Pairfect Colorway: 07114 Needle Size: US Size 1 (The instructions state you should begin from the center of the ball of yarn and knit cuff down. BUT…I don’t knit cuff down socks. So…I started from the outside of the ball and will knit my usual toe up vanilla sock. Worked "pairfectly")

A fast knit

These socks just flew off the needles! The pattern in the socks is just enough to keep them from being vanilla but the impact is great. I'm going to be knitting them again soon... Pattern: Honey Badger by Irishgirlieknits Yarn: Cascade Yarns Heritage Paints Colorway: Celtic Needles: US Size 1

A fiesta on your feet

I used a bright orange yarn for the toes of these footie socks and used Patons Mexicala stripe yarn for the foot. Fun AND warm!  Pattern: No pattern, but Fish Lips Kiss Heel Yarn: Regia 4-fadig, Patons North America Kroy Sock Stripes Colorway: Bright Orange, Mexicala Stripes Needle Size: US Size 1

#4 of 22

You probably remember I recently bought twenty two skeins of yarn from Little Knits. and am loosely keeping track of the usage of said yarn. This is number 4..... Pattern: Harris Tweed Socks by Ali Green Yarn: Schachenmayr Regia Design Line by Arnie and Carlos Colorway: Bamble Needle Size: Us Size 1

A quilt for a baby boy

I finished the latest baby quilt last night, the "Rainy Days" quilt. I will think several times before using anything but white for trimming the blocks on quilts. (I'm such a newbie perhaps that is the only way a person is suppose to make them).  I had thought the puppy themed material would be perfect for a baby boy but I continue to find it difficult to find the perfect combination of prints for a boy. I'm not giving up and  eventually I'll find just the right combinations of fabrics to keep a baby boy warm. I I love the pattern blocks of "Rainy Days" and the way the they play with your head - each block is square and the quilting is straight lines. This is a quilt I will make again.

Sparks flew on our trip to Freezeout Lake

After a week home from his last outing, Hubby was ready for another trip into the wild frontier.  The weekend weather was predicted to be sunny and warm and Hubby gave me time to make beef stew, chicken noodle soup and homemade yeast rolls. Even Denali was willing to go without to much protest. The destination was Freezeout Lake in the northwest corner of the state. It's about a hundred miles from Glacier National Park. Twice a year, in October and March,  the snow geese use this area as a resting place when they are migrating either north or south. They stay three or four days before moving on to their final destination. It is reported there can be as many as 100,000 snow geese resting at one time, however, when we were there the estimate was approximately 10,000. The grain fields in the area provide the birds with food which they forage for several times each day.  When rested these birds depart on their final leg of the journey ending in Russia, Canada or the Hudson ...
